An exciting program involving primary schools is being
conducted in the
Moreland area, fun 'n' healthy in Moreland! is part of the new national push towards healthy
living for children and is an opportunity for schools, families and local
community organisations to get involved in a range of activities designed to
increase physical activity, healthy eating and positive self esteem.

For further information contact Lisa Gibbs, Project Manager, on 0439 393 917 or Shirin Nakhuda, Community Development Worker on 8319 7423.
The project will involve the participation of local primary schools in the City
of Moreland and their communities of parents, staff and children. Local
community groups and organisations will also be encouraged to participate in the
project.
Participating schools will be randomly allocated to program and comparison groups. We will assist the program schools to formulate and implement a range of classroom, school system, family and community orientated strategies that focus on increasing better food choices, and physical activity opportunities. The programs are likely to include initiatives such as:
EvaluationBaseline measures were taken in 2004 and 2005. Further measures will be taken mid-project in 2007 and at the end of the project in 2009.
The program plans and partnerships with local community organisations were developed and progressively implemented in 2006. They will be further developed and monitored throughout the project. Those that have a positive effect will continue beyond the project.
